Sal's by Victor restaurant in Williamsburg reopens a year after fire | Business

Sal's by Victor is home, finally.

Nearly a year after a fire destroyed the Williamsburg Italian restaurant, owner Victorio Minichello is reopening the eatery today in its old location in the Williamsburg Shopping Center.

Sal's and two other Williamsburg Shopping Center businesses were heavily damaged by a fire last July that began in the restaurant's kitchen. Williamsburg fire officials investigated the fire and determined last September it was an accident.

Minichello has been operating the restaurant out of the old Scala Pizzeria & Taverna building at 1425 Richmond Road while he waited for the old location to be rebuilt. Last November, Minichello worked out an agreement with the Richmond Road building's owner to make the site the temporary location for Sal's by Victor so he could get his employees back to work and start serving customers again.

Minichello had hoped to be back in his permanent location by the spring, but the reopening date was pushed back to this summer. Most recently, he announced plans to return to his old restaurant by the end of June, but that also was delayed. //
