Williamsburg has Hope for the Summer

Colonial Williamsburg is having a hopeful summer.  Despite the hot start to the summer, Williamsburg officials think that this summer will have an increase in the number of visitors. 

In the past few years Williamsburg saw a disturbing decline in their attendance.  Attendance was up this spring and has held steady so far this summer.

10 arrested in York meth bust: "Operation Georgia Peach"

Five York County residents have been arrested in a meth operation case, known as "Operation Georgia Peach".

Police say "Operation Georgia Peach" was an ongoing investigation into the manufacturing of methamphetamine - conducted jointly by the Tri-Rivers Narcotics Task Force, York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office, and James City County Police Department.

Officials say warrants were served at two homes in the 1200 block of Wilkins Drive in York County.

Police found chemicals, OTC cold medicine packaging, as well as other materials associated with the manufacturing of the drug methamphetamine. 

A total of 10 individuals were arrested and charged with multiple felonies from James City County, York County, and Williamsburg.

The following James City County residents were charged with the following crimes in JCC, York and Williamsburg:

 
1. 56-year-old Patrick Joseph Dubois of the 1200 Block of Duncan Drive.

VDOT completes Hurricane Irene debris removal in all seven Hampton Roads counties


HAMPTON ROADS - The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and its contractor crews have completed debris-removal on state-maintained primary and secondary roadways in the following Hampton Roads counties: Greensville, James City County, Isle of Wight, Southampton, Surry, Sussex, and York County. Vegetative debris removal began after Hurricane Irene, on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2011, and was completed on Dec. 7, 2011.

Crews removed 224,849 cubic yards of vegetative debris and covered more than 2,611 lane miles of state-maintained right-of-way. Debris that remains in state-maintained right-of way is now the responsibility of the homeowner. Should arrangements for additional debris removal need to be made, citizens should contact county offices to schedule removal.

VDOT’s Customer Service Center at 1-800-FOR-ROAD (800-367-7623) has agents available 24 hours a day to answer customer questions and record any reports of any road hazards.

Meet Raw Foodist, Karen Cooper.  Raw food consists of fresh fruits and vegetables.  The term raw is commonly interchanged with the word live.

“When you eat cooked foods your feeding thoughts, memories, and taste buds, “ said Cooper.

“Cooked foods constipate you, adds stress, can cause Diabetes, and other ailments,” continued Cooper.

After converting to raw foods five years ago, Cooper has been hooked every since.

“I grew up as a vegetarian, got away from it as a teen, and started looking at all the unhealthy people around me.  So it became real clear that eating fresh food was the right thing to do to prevent future ailments.  After all, I like the best of everything and raw food is the best, It just makes sense,” said Cooper.

HAMPTON ROADS, Va. – The 11th annual Farm Fresh “Round Up” to support cancer research and treatment at CHKD has been going so well the chain has decided to extend it almost a week, to Saturday, April 2th.

Farm Fresh decided to extend the Round Up due to the overwhelmingly positive response from customers.

The chain-wide, in-store fundraiser was initially scheduled to take place March 9 through March 27. During the Round Up, Farm Fresh customers contribute to CHKD by rounding-up their grocery bill to the next dollar – or contributing even more. Over the last 10 years, customers’ change has added up to substantial donations for CHKD’s cancer program.
