Hundreds of drivers reported damage; none of them were paid

Taking action: Finding solutions to pothole problems

On Wednesday – NewsChannel 3 will be in Richmond to get answers about VDOT’s response to our crumbling roads.

The Commonwealth Transportation Board will meet this morning at 10 a.m.

Members include the Secretary of Transportation and the VDOT Commissioner.

NewsChannel 3 Investigator Laurie Simmons will be asking them about the potholes on Interstate 264 – and if VDOT plans to foot the bill for the cars that were damaged when they struck potholes.

Alert: Highway Advisory Radio moves to 1680AM

 

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT)’s Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) station in Hampton Roads has moved to a new station. Traffic information is now airing on 1680AM. 

Previously located at 610AM, the Highway Advisory Radio station advises the public of current traffic conditions on Hampton Roads highways, 24-hours a day, seven days a week. The transition to 1680AM began early last week and was completed by Friday, May 4, on the Southside and the Peninsula.

“VDOT is always looking for ways to improve upon the traffic and travel information system. The change to a higher frequency could potentially improve the sound quality of the broadcasts,” said Dwayne Cook, VDOT Regional Operations Director, Eastern Region.

New traffic signals installed on Route 60

On Thursday, April 5, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will activate two new traffic signals on Richmond Road (Route 60) in James City County. The new signals are at the intersection of Richmond Road (Route 60) and the entrances to the Williamsburg Pottery.

Beginning early tomorrow morning, the traffic signals will be fully activated with green, yellow, and red functionality. The traffic signals were installed to facilitate traffic flow at the newly renovated Williamsburg Pottery.  Motorists are advised to be alert and obey the new traffic signals when driving in this area.

Multiple openings scheduled for Coleman Bridge Wednesday

YORK COUNTY –Crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will have multiple openings at the George P. Coleman Memorial Bridge on Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2012. The openings will occur at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Maritime traffic will not be affected during the maintenance activities.<?xml:namespace prefix = o />

Motorists traveling both northbound and southbound over the Coleman Bridge (Route 17) should expect traffic stops of up to 20 minutes as the spans are opened.

These openings are part of maintenance operations.

Traffic shift scheduled for Ironbound Road

WILLIAMSBURG — As the first phase of construction on Ironbound Road in Williamsburg and James City County nears completion, motorists should anticipate a new traffic pattern scheduled to begin the week of January 2, 2012, weather conditions permitting.

Crews will shift traffic onto the newly-constructed southbound lanes on the west side of Ironbound Road (Route 615) between Strawberry Plains Road (Route 616) and Longhill Connector Road (Route 612). The traffic shift will allow for work to start on the second phase of the project, which includes reconstruction of the northbound lanes on the east side of Ironbound Road.

New traffic signal installed at the Centerville/Longhill Road intersection

On Friday, September 30, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will activate a new traffic signal at the intersection of Centerville Road (Route 614) and Longhill Road (Route 612) in James City County.

 

An engineering study of traffic conditions, pedestrian characteristics and physical characteristics of the location was conducted. It was determined that signal installation would improve traffic flow and safety at the intersection.

 

Beginning mid-morning tomorrow, Friday, September 30, the signals will be activated to flashing yellow on Centerville Road and flashing red on Longhill Road.
